eBay AdCommerce Closed Down – The Sproose Goose

As of today the eBay Adcommerce Pay Per Click program is no more as eBay have closed down adcommerce for ebay.com and ebay.ca. This is, or was the ebay pay per click program that allowed sellers to buy clicks to listings. This makes sense if giving buyers who visit ebay to buy products the most valued service is important to ebay, since sellers will no longer be able to ‘buy’ their way to the top of the search results.

A bit like the gigantic H-4 Hercules military plane nicknamed ‘the sproose goose’ that only flew once at a height of only 75 feet. Could ebay adcommerce be the ‘sproose goose‘ of pay per click advertising programs?

OK, there may be more ‘sproose gooses’ knocking around on the internet than anywhere else, but the point is that great service has always been one of the main points for creating a successful business both on the internet and offline and great service is going to be the main focus for sellers to get listings near the top of best match search results for the foreseeable future.

    Hey John,

    I myself think eBay produced a platform in the form of ‘adcommerce’, that really wasn`t nessesary, they were to boardroom minded of how to profit more in certain areas on eBay via this tool!

    At the end of the day, with the correct research in all the sub niche ‘ supply and demand’ markets sellers will get steady flow of sales, it only stands to reason these buyers know the products are there and simply keyword them.

    And if you have created a good keyword rich title for the ‘best match’ search results, then theres no doubt you will be found, so will the competition, in which case you just offer your product as unique as possible to combat that, by making it ‘private label’!

    In my opinion, there wasn`t any great need for the ‘adcommerce’ tool, when sellers were paying for a service giving more or less the same results as a great optimised listing would in the first place.

      You are right about optimized listings etc.

      Adcommerce was another income stream for eBay and it didn’t really work in line with their best match strategies. eBay want sellers to make listings best match friendly to sell more. As you know those who sell more are rewarded with a higher best match search standing and other perks.

      The adcomerce program allowed sellers to buy clicks to their products and that basically contradicts what eBay are aiming for with best match.

    Hey John,

    To further add to this, if you are going to spend money PPC, then its better spent on the external search engines like Google and yahoo driving buyers to your own websites selling your products without the eBay fees!

    I mean using adCommerce in eBay you are paying eBay to charge you for making a sale!

    That bolsters your point on eBays train of thought when comes to squeezing more juice out of its sellers!

      There’s certainly a lot more places to get traffic to online products.
